New Year, (Not so) New Goal.

Sorry for the complete lack of posting for the past few weeks!  I went straight from exams to holidays.  I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas & New Year's.  Tell me: what was your favourite thing about the holidays?  Any New Year's resolutions?
I make resolutions in May, not January for a number of reasons.  One because my birthday always makes me feel like it's a new year - I'm another year older, so therefore I should start looking towards the future.  Secondly, because I usually make the rookie mistake of trying to reform my exercise habits & it's a lot easier to do that when it's warm out!  Vowing to go to the gym every day when it's -20 Celsius with three feet of snow on the ground is just plain silly.  I therefore use New Year's as a time to evaluate my progress.  This year, I decided I would try & be more active.  How has that fared in the first six months?  Here's a little update...
I did really well until September.  For the first few months, I was running three times a week with DTE in preparation for my first 5K race.  I was also taking golf lessons.  After school started up in September, though, I basically put away my exercise gear & stopped doing anything.  Since about October, the only exercise I've gotten is the ten minutes each way walk to my bus twice a day.  I'm currently giving myself a minimal passing grade for progress.
In order to combat my current lack of exercise, I'm going to make a plan.  I managed to schedule all of my classes to be on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays, which leaves me quite a lot of time to get to the gym or outside or wherever.  My only problem is that I'm rarely excited to exercise.  Do you have any ways to get over this?  New music, new gear, new form of exercise?  I'd love suggestions!

  1. I love to make a new playlist each time I go! I like to do 30 min interval training on the elliptical or treadmill each time I go, so I try to take some down time during the day, like the awkward break between classes, to write down songs I am feeling that day! Sometimes it will be a song stuck in my head, or I will remember how great X song was a motivating me last time I heard it!

  2. Ohhh wow you were not kidding, we do have a lot in common. I think scheduling time like you did is a smart decision. Set it on a calendar on your Droid/iPhone/Blackberry to remind you of it as an obligation and commitment to yourself.

I always get a fun, totally adorable workout outfit to motivate me. I also look on websites for exercise playlists and put together some of my own. I motivate myself with goals and rewarding myself when I achieve those goals (spa day, etc.). Good luck!!

  3. This is my perpetual resolution and I'm really determined that this year will be it (that and finally learn how to cook some food my husband enjoys eating). I am not sure what the trick is.
