Chronicling a Change - Blog Post Suggestions!

Image via my Instagram.
When I first started blogging a few years ago, this blog was super structured. I loved how each day of the week had a specific theme. Three years later, my themes are definitely starting to feel tired so I'm looking forward to freshening things up a bit! While I'm still planning on doing the occasional "What I'm Loving Wednesday" or "Five Things Friday" post, I feel like it's time to introduce some new content around here too. I'm excited to talk more about what's going on in my life right now, like how to deal with balancing grad school & the rest of my life including maintaining relationships & still finding time for myself. I also feel like this blog has become a little bit too much about shopping (how many new arrivals posts can I write? I mean, really) so I want to try to mix in some more entries about books & fitness & well, other topics that aren't clothes.
That all being said, what kinds of posts would you like to see? I would love suggestions!

What I'm Loving Wednesday.

Somehow, I've managed to survive the first few weeks of graduate school. It's taken a lot of Starbucks (which I'm somehow going to go without for the next two weeks thanks to #79 on my 101 in 1001 list  - wish me luck!), chatting with friends, & a bit of retail therapy. I'm hoping that I'll be able to devote more time to this blog too. I may not post super frequently, but I really want to still have this as an outlet when I'm tired of talking about the theories & methodologies of art history.
That being said, here are a few things that I've been talking about & loving this week!

I'm loving that I got to attend my Big's wedding this past weekend. It's crazy to think that she's now MARRIED! I'm so glad that DTE & I got to be there to celebrate her saying "I do" to the man of her dreams.

I'm loving all of the sales (& free shipping to Canada!) that I've been able to take advantage of lately. A few of my favourite purchases? This trench, these sneakers (in navy!), & this sweater. They're all perfect pieces for the cooler fall weather! Have you bought anything lately? What's your favourite purchase so far?

I'm loving that I'm slowly getting caught up on all of my Vogue issues. I was definitely more focused on books (& Netflix) over the summer, so my magazines definitely fell by the wayside! It's been nice to read a few articles each night before bed or check out one of the fashion spreads on a study break.

101 in 1001 Update.

It's been a while since I updated my 101 in 1001 list so I thought I would share my progress since my last update in March. How was that already six months ago?! Here are a few of the things I've managed to check off between now & then:

2. Send 50 handwritten notes (completed June 2014)
I love snail mail but sometimes it can take a lot to sit down & write a note or two. Needing to write fifty made me a lot more conscious of needing to say thank you, pick up a birthday card, or simply reach out to a friend to say "hi". It's definitely rekindled my love of paper & postage!

12. Play a round of golf (July 2014)
This happened totally by chance. My mother's partner for her Ladies' Member-Guest tournament took ill & I was the perfect backup because I had that day off of work. While I was definitely a bit nervous, I ended up having a great day playing with my mother, sister, & grandma in our (I kid you not) coordinating outfits.

13. Find a skincare routine that works for me & stick with it  (April 2014)
Back in the spring, my dermatologist recommended that I try Biophora products made specifically for sensitive skin. I've been using the cleanser & toner for a few months now & love it. Washing my face is still quick & easy, but my skin has really improved.

19. Try 10 new local restaurants (completed September 2014)
I love going out to eat, but it's sometimes too easy to just rely on my list of go-to places for meals. Trying out different restaurants in my hometown opened up my eyes to a few potential new favourites & hidden gems!

23. Attend my sorority's biannual Convention (June 2014)
I've always wanted to attend Delta Gamma's biannual Convention, but figured this would be one goal that would probably transfer on to my next 101 in 1001 list. Somehow, I managed to get myself organized enough to register & down to Phoenix! While I didn't absolutely love every second of Convention (which you can read more about here), it was still an incredible experience that I'm glad to have had this past summer.

30. Wear only skirts & dresses for a week (June 2014)
This might seem like a super simple goal, but a) the weather where I live is super unpredictable (case in point: it snowed on Monday & then by this weekend, the temperatures were in the low sixties) & b) sometimes it's just easier to put on a pair of Minnie pants & a button down. Challenging myself to dig into my ever-expanding Lilly collection & pull out some of my dresses made getting dressed every morning a little bit more fun! I actually ended up continuing to challenge myself to wear more skirts & dresses all summer long. It definitely felt weird to put on pants on a colder day!

39. Attend 10 concerts (completed May 2014)
2013-2014 seemed to be the year of country concerts in my hometown. I saw so many great acts! Luke Bryan, Mumford & Sons, Taylor Swift, & Keith Urban were my favourite concerts although all of the acts I saw put on great shows. Have you attended any concerts recently?

43. Send someone a surprise care package (July 2014)
I wasn't sure if I was ever going to come up with a reason to send someone a care package so when KEL mentioned how crazy her hours were at her law internship, I knew I just had to send her something! I mailed her a package complete with fun pens, a cute lip balm, a pair of Hanky Pankys (seriously the best underwear ever), & cookies from a favourite local bakery.

83. Watch all of the seasons of Gossip Girl (completed June 2014)
I basically treated this past summer as my last "fun" summer. I indulged in a few vacations, lots of time with friends, & plenty of reading & Netflix bingeing. My Netflix drug of choice? Gossip Girl! I had watched the show when it first started airing but missed too many episodes because my sorority held chapter on Monday nights. Fun fact: Bid Day the year I joined Delta Gamma was Gossip Girl themed! What was your Bid Day theme?

In the next few months, I'm excited to try out some baking (#72) & cooking (#28) recipes, attend a lecture on a subject I don't know anything about (#94) - I'm debating whether my graduate seminars count because I know nothing about grant writing, & going out for brunch  (#82) or tea (#33) with friends. Here's to checking more off of my 101 in 1001 list!

Tunes on Tuesday.

Anyone who has seen my Twitter feed lately knows just how excited I am about Taylor Swift's new album 1989. I may have already preordered the album so that it'll download as soon as it's released. I've been listening to Shake It Off on repeat for about a week now! Here's hoping that she releases other songs from the album soon so that I'm not playing the same one over & over...Have you listened to T. Swift's new song or watched the music video? What did you think?

Summer Summary.

I can't believe summer is basically over.  I guess time does fly when you aren't blogging...Here's what I've been up to since my last post about what I've been up to (which was basically my only post of the entire summer).

At the end of June, I went to Phoenix for my first ever Delta Gamma Convention, which was held at the gorgeous old Arizona Biltmore. Some parts of Convention were amazing, like participating in the Anchor Run, shopping at Anchor Marketplace & Lilly Pulitzer, & exploring the hotel property (even in hundred degree heat). I loved all three of the guest speakers I heard - Erin Condren (of Erin Condren Designs!), Alison Levine, & Jessica Pettitt. All three of them are Delta Gammas & just incredible women. I also loved listening to the Foundation speaker, Laurie Rubin, who is a visually impaired opera singer. Her voice was absolutely stunning & her message about never letting anything get in the way of your dreams was just incredible. At the same time, I definitely had moments where I felt like I didn't belong there at all. I didn't know many DGs & I'm definitely on the shy side, so I had a hard time going up to other people & striking up a conversation. It made me wonder how I ever survived recruitment! Needless to say, I'm hoping that more DGs I know will be at Convention 2016 in Orlando, Florida.

A few weeks after Convention, DTE & I embarked on a road trip to Kelowna for a friend's wedding. My family went to Kelowna every summer when I was younger, so it was so fun being back in Kelowna & visiting all of the spots I had loved as a child. We had a great time visiting the orchards, eating ice cream, & spending time just hanging out at the lake.

We also managed to go visit my sister & NMK a couple of times - once to see NMK compete in his first Half Ironman triathlon & a second time for me to help KMF set up her new classroom! While their new hometown isn't that far away, it's still fun to get out of the city for a few days & hang out somewhere else. An added bonus was getting to see friends like LKB & my Big!

Other than those few holidays, I'm still just working, volunteering, & hanging out. Running has fallen by the wayside yet again this summer. Any tips for getting back on track? Here's hoping that I'll make more of an effort this fall!

Lilly After Party Sale.

Sorry for the silence around here - it's been yet another long blogging break on my part! I'm going to hopefully get more into blogging once school starts up again but I'm not sure how consistent it'll be. Apparently having a life outside of graduate school is borderline impossible, which definitely makes me a little nervous for the start of classes in September.
On a happier note, I am so excited about all of my After Party sale purchases from Lilly Pulitzer! While I can't shop on the main Lilly site (any time you want to start shipping outside of the US, Lilly, you just let me know), I managed to score some great Lilly items from stores like Village Palm - which is my go-to store for all things Lilly - & Ocean Palm. Let me just tell you, though, that shopping this year's sale was my #ohshift moment. I tried to order online through one Lilly store (which promised it could ship internationally through it's site), only to spend over half an hour trying to figure out why there were no shipping options for my address. Ask me how thrilled I was about that at six in the morning...Luckily, I could still order via phone so after trying to get through to both stores (plus leaving a voicemail or two) all morning, I ended up with a few items off of my wish list!

Tate skirt in Resort White "Watch Out"
Originally $98; on sale for $54 at Village Palm!
I had been trying to track down this skirt for what feels like forever. I had purchased it in the "She She Shells" print back in July & couldn't justify buying the same skirt in two prints. Needless to say, it was definitely at the top of my sale wish list! A nautical print & anchor details - how could I resist?

Cala skort in Hotty Pink "Get Crackin'"
Originally $78; on sale for $39 at Village Palm!
Like the Tate, I had bought the Cala earlier this summer. After basically wearing my Cala in "Lobstah Roll" to death this summer, I figured I might as well get it in another print!

Murfee scarf in Spa Blue "Nice Tail"
Originally $118; on sale for $59 at Ocean Palm!
The Little Mermaid is my favourite Disney movie of all time, so I just had to have this mermaid print scarf! I wish DTE & I were going back to Disneyland over New Year's this year - how cute would this scarf be for photos with Ariel?!

"Fa La Lilly" holiday cards
Originally $17.95; on sale for $8.95 at Ocean Palm!
I was so excited to see Christmas cards included in this year's sale! I've always wanted Lilly holiday cards & can't wait to mail a few of these out this year!

Did you purchase anything in the sale? What was your favourite item that you bought? Anything you missed out on? Let me know! I love reading about everyone's sale purchases!

Where I've Been...

It's amazing how quickly time slips by. I looked at this blog today & realized it's been nearly two months since my last post. Here's a bit of what's been going on in my life since April!

Image via my (many) photos from the trip.
DTE & I went to Florida for two weeks in May & had the best time. From meeting tons of characters (including eleven of the princesses!) to going on rides & trying out so many of the amazing restaurants, it was one of my favourite holidays to date. I especially loved getting to try the "grey stuff" at Be Our Guest, meeting Anna & Elsa (what can I say - I love "Frozen"), & going to the Lilly store in Sarasota! I also loved getting to stay at both the Port Orleans Riverside during our trip. We also stayed at the Grand Floridian for part of our trip - the hotel & grounds were absolutely gorgeous! I can only dream of being back in Florida now...

We came back in time to celebrate my 24th birthday. It seems so funny that I started this blog right after my 21st birthday as a way of writing down what I found interesting (which, looking back, looks like a lot of shopping). I'm really not sure what to post about going forward so I would love suggestions. What would you like to read or see?

June kicked off with my university convocation. I am now officially a university graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree! I was also super excited to be accepted into both programs I applied to - one masters program in art history & one masters in museum studies program. I chose art history & I can't wait to get started in September!

Other than the big moments, I've been working, running when I can, & trying to spend lots of time with my family, friends, & boyfriend. I've also been working at crossing things off of my 101 in 1001 list (which is how I'm justifying my current Netflix addiction). What have you been up to over the last few months? I would love to catch up!
